A convoy of 82 fuel tankers from Niger has arrived in the Malian capital, Bamako, as part of official support from Nigerien authorities to Mali, which has been facing repeated pressure on fuel supplies.
The initiative was carried out under the directive of Niger’s president, Abdourahmane Tiani, and the shipment was formally handed over to Mali’s Minister of Industry and Trade during a government reception ceremony.
The convoy traveled a long distance along the Niamey–Bamako corridor, one of the region’s most security-sensitive routes.
Mali relies almost entirely on imports to meet its energy needs, estimated at around 40,000 barrels per day.
The operation underscores Niger’s growing role as a regional energy supplier, following its emergence as a petroleum-exporting country.
