Morocco Erupts in Celebration After Historic UN Security Council Decision Backing Autonomy Plan

A wave of nationwide celebrations swept across Morocco’s cities, from Tangier to Laayoune, following the historic UN Security Council decision endorsing Morocco’s autonomy plan as the framework for resolving the Western Sahara dispute.

As the news broke, public squares turned into scenes of jubilation, with citizens waving national flags, singing patriotic songs, and chanting slogans celebrating what many described as a victory for Moroccan unity.

The Security Council resolution, adopted by a large majority, places Morocco’s autonomy proposal at the center of the political solution. Rabat hailed the move as “a triumph for Moroccan diplomacy” and “the culmination of years of persistent engagement.”

Backed by major powers including the United States and France, the decision marks a turning point in the decades-long conflict and positions Morocco at the forefront in defending its territorial integrity and diplomatic leadership in the region.
