Madagascar’s intelligence services have announced that they foiled a coup attempt and uncovered a plot to assassinate President Michael Randrianirina.
According to the Director General of Intelligence, two foreign businessmen residing in the country for more than five years were arrested for allegedly planning to overthrow the president.
A raid on one of their luxury properties led to the seizure of weapons, large sums of money including two billion ariary in cash, and foreign currencies.
Officials confirmed that President Randrianirina was the direct target of the assassination plan, while three additional suspects remain at large.
Investigations are ongoing to identify the full scope of the conspiracy and possible international connections.
