Libyan Blogger Killed in Tripoli in Incident That Sparks International Condemnation

Libyan blogger Al-Khansa Mohamed Abdelmajid was shot dead in the capital, Tripoli, after armed men opened fire on her vehicle, according to local news reports.

Local media said unidentified gunmen targeted the car she was traveling in and shot her when she attempted to flee, killing her instantly.

The victim ran a beauty and fashion blog and also owned a women’s clothing business.

She was married to politician Moaz Al-Manfouha, a former member of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum.

In response to the killing, the Interior Ministry of the Government of National Unity ordered an elevated security alert in Tripoli and Janzour, and launched a full investigation into the incident.

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) condemned the attack, calling for a “swift and transparent investigation” and voicing concern over “the troubling pattern of violence against women and the targeting of female public figures.”
