France has announced the withdrawal of several of its diplomats from Mali due to the worsening security situation in the country.
In a statement, the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it had “decided to adjust its diplomatic and consular presence” in Mali by reducing its staff, without disclosing the exact number of personnel affected.
The decision comes amid a surge in armed attacks, particularly by JNIM, a group designated as terrorist, which has intensified its operations since last September.
Mali is also grappling with a severe fuel shortage caused by armed groups blocking key supply routes used by fuel tankers, disrupting deliveries to the capital, Bamako.
