Ethiopian Foreign Minister Gedion Timotheos has accused neighboring Eritrea of carrying out “ongoing violations of national sovereignty” and providing “significant support” to armed opposition groups inside Ethiopia.
Speaking at a foreign-policy forum hosted by Horn Review magazine and Addis Ababa University, Timotheos announced that Ethiopia is ending its policy of military restraint in response to what he described as “serious provocations” by Eritrea.
He stated that Eritrean forces have taken control of several areas in northern Ethiopia, stressing that his country continues to exercise its “legitimate right to defend its sovereignty” amid escalating tensions along the shared border.
