Djibouti’s ruling party, the People’s Rally for Progress (RPP), has officially nominated President Ismaïl Omar Guelleh to run in the upcoming presidential elections scheduled for April 9.
The nomination was announced during an extraordinary congress held at the Palace of the People in Djibouti City, where Guelleh accepted the candidacy, describing it as a “genuine expression of the Djiboutian people’s will.”
In his address, the president pledged to present a national program focused on sustainable development and stability, emphasizing the importance of national unity in the coming period.
Ismaïl Omar Guelleh, who has been in power since 1999, is Djibouti’s second president since the country gained independence from France in 1977.
