The armed group JNIM (Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin) has called on all segments of the Malian population to “rise up” against the current government and boycott its institutions, according to a statement released through its media arm, Az-Zallaqa.
In the statement, the group urged public figures, businesses, students, and workers to stand against what it described as the “ruling junta,” calling for the establishment of a “just Islamic government” implementing Sharia law.
The group reiterated its denunciation of what it called “horrific massacres” committed by the authorities with support from foreign forces, and emphasized its guiding principle:
“Refraining from harming those who refrain from harming us, and peace for those who seek peace.”
Designated as a terrorist organisation by the Malian government, JNIM has intensified its attacks in recent months.
The government has not commented on the latest statement but has previously denied human rights abuses and affirmed that its armed forces remain committed to international law.
