Media sources have confirmed the release of three hostages — two Emirati nationals and one Iranian — who had been held by armed groups in Mali since September.
The release followed mediation efforts led by prominent figures from the Azawad region, who coordinated negotiations between local actors and foreign authorities.
According to the sources, the talks resulted in the payment of a €50 million ransom, reportedly funded by the United Arab Emirates, securing the hostages’ freedom.
The development comes amid a surge in kidnappings across northern Mali in recent months, reflecting the deteriorating security situation and the growing influence of armed groups in the region.
