South Africa has reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing its genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) over the war in Gaza, despite the recent announcement of a ceasefire.
In a statement, South Africa’s Department of International Relations and Cooperation said that the cessation of hostilities does not end legal accountability for the alleged crimes, emphasizing that the case aims to achieve lasting justice and prevent future violations.
The move reflects Pretoria’s long-standing stance in support of oppressed peoples, while Israel continues to deny the accusations, insisting its actions were carried out in self-defense.
The legal proceedings are expected to take years but remain a significant source of international pressure on Tel Aviv.
