Seven Soldiers, Including Senior Officer, Killed in Ambush in Northeast Nigeria

Seven Nigerian soldiers, including a senior military officer, were killed in an ambush carried out by militant groups in the country’s northeast.

The attack occurred near Konduga, about 35 kilometers from Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State.

According to a military intelligence report, the attackers—linked to Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP)—targeted a military patrol on Friday.

The assault came just a week after a similar ambush that left seven other soldiers dead.

Although the overall intensity of the insurgency has declined compared to its peak a decade ago, violence in the region continues to surge.

The ongoing conflict has displaced nearly two million people across northeastern Nigeria and has spilled over into neighboring countries.
