Nigerian Police Disperse Protest in Abuja Over Detention of Separatist Leader Nnamdi Kanu

Nigerian police fired tear gas to disperse protesters who gathered in the capital, Abuja, to denounce the continued detention of separatist leader Nnamdi Kanu.

Police also blocked major roads across the capital to prevent demonstrators from converging, causing heavy traffic jams in several parts of the city.

Kanu, the leader of the banned Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) movement, faces terrorism charges, which he denies. He has been in detention since 2021.
