Morocco: Youth Protests Escalate into Clashes with Security Forces

Youth-led protests in several Moroccan cities escalated for the fourth consecutive day, culminating in violent clashes with security forces on Tuesday night.

The youth movement “Gen Z 212” organized demonstrations in Tiznit, Inzegane, Aït Amira in the south, as well as Oujda in the east and Témara near Rabat.

Local media and eyewitnesses reported that protesters hurled stones at police and set fire to security vehicles and bank branches in some areas.

Security forces used water cannons to disperse the demonstrators, who chanted slogans such as “The people want to end corruption.”

One protester was seriously injured in Oujda, while police arrested dozens of young people in Rabat and other cities.

Meanwhile, the ruling coalition expressed readiness to engage in dialogue with the youth and praised the security forces’ response, describing it as “balanced.”
