Nine Mediterranean member states of the European Union have called for the reopening of border crossings to allow humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip and to ensure full compliance with the ceasefire agreement.
The appeal was made during the Med 9 summit held in Slovenia, where Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob stated that “there is no justification for obstructing the delivery of humanitarian assistance,” urging the Israeli government to open the Rafah crossing and other border points.
The summit brought together officials from France, Cyprus, Greece, Croatia, Italy, Malta, Slovenia, Spain, and Portugal, with Jordan’s King Abdullah II and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in attendance.
The call comes amid mounting concerns over the fragility of the ceasefire following recent Israeli airstrikes on Gaza that left dozens dead.
