Boat Capsizes in Nigeria’s Kogi State, Leaving 26 Dead

A local official confirmed on Wednesday that a passenger boat capsized on the Niger River in Abaji, Kogi State, on Tuesday, killing at least 26 people.

The cause of the accident remains unclear.

In a statement, Governor Yahaya Bello offered condolences: “This is a tragic loss, and our prayers are with the families of the victims and the entire Abaji community in this sad moment.”

The state government said it is working with federal agencies to improve safety measures on waterways and prevent similar incidents in the future.
