U.S. issues security warning in Mali during Independence Day celebrations

The U.S. Embassy in Mali has issued a security alert advising its citizens to postpone non-essential travel to Bamako and remain at home on September 22, as the country marks its 65th Independence Day.

The alert cited a heavy security presence, possible road closures, and traffic congestion expected during official festivities, which will include military parades.

American citizens were urged to avoid large gatherings and demonstrations, review their security plans, and monitor local media for updates.

The warning comes amid heightened security tensions, as the Malian army continues operations against armed groups, particularly in the Kayes and Nioro regions, which remain under blockade by the Macina Brigade.
