The Sudanese army announced it has regained control of the city of Bara in North Kordofan State after fierce clashes with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
In a statement released on social media, the army said its forces had entered the city “with strength, determination, and resolve,” vowing to “cleanse the entire country” of what it described as rebels.
The development follows a recent military escalation, including drone attacks earlier in September that struck military and strategic facilities in Khartoum, causing massive power outages. The RSF claimed responsibility for those attacks.
The conflict between the army and the paramilitary RSF, ongoing since April 2023, has triggered one of the region’s worst humanitarian crises, leaving thousands dead and millions displaced.
