The Senegalese Armed Forces announced the launch of a joint patrol with Mauritania along their shared border, aimed at strengthening security, particularly in Senegal’s eastern belt.
The patrol, dubbed “Operation Security,” covered several towns between Bakel Oundou and Diogountouro on the Malian border, as part of ongoing cooperation between the two countries to counter security threats.
The move comes amid increased attacks by armed groups operating in Mali near the border area, including threats to block fuel supplies from neighboring countries. These groups had earlier kidnapped six Senegalese truck drivers before later releasing them.
A few months ago, the two countries carried out a similar joint patrol focused on combating organized crime, cattle rustling, and irregular migration, highlighting their commitment to strengthening cross-border security cooperation.
