The government of Niger has officially announced the creation of a new national airline, “Niger Air International,” as part of efforts to boost air connectivity and stimulate economic growth.
The airline will be majority-owned by the state, alongside private investors, and will focus on strengthening both domestic and international routes to better connect Niger with regional and global markets.
To ensure a strong start, Niger has partnered with Morocco, leveraging its advanced aviation sector to provide technical and managerial expertise, making Rabat a key player in laying the operational foundations of the new carrier.
The announcement comes after the collapse of former flag carrier Niger Airlines in late 2022 due to security challenges, and aligns with a broader Sahel-wide trend in which countries like Burkina Faso are modernizing and expanding their air fleets.
