Namibia Sends 500 Troops to Contain Etosha National Park Fire

Namibia has deployed over 500 soldiers to help contain a wildfire that has swept through nearly one-third of Etosha National Park.

Fanned by strong winds since September 22, the blaze has destroyed about 30% of the park’s grazing land and killed an unknown number of wild animals. No human casualties have been reported.

The government also dispatched two helicopters and closed several tourist roads, as investigations continue into the cause of the fire threatening one of Africa’s key biodiversity reserves.
