Mozambican President Daniel Chapo has announced the start of a two-year national dialogue bringing together government officials, opposition leaders, and civil society representatives.
At 48, Chapo is the first president born after independence, facing major challenges including an economic crisis, an armed insurgency in Cabo Delgado, and political tensions after disputed elections.
He said the dialogue could provide a framework to address these issues and build lasting stability. His vision draws on the country’s history of five centuries of Portuguese colonization, followed by a war of liberation and a 16-year civil war that claimed one million lives.
