At least four people were killed in an attack by fighters linked to the Islamic State on the coastal town of Mocímboa da Praia in northern Mozambique.
Local sources reported that the Sunday assault left two security personnel and two civilians dead before Mozambican and Rwandan troops intervened, forcing the attackers to flee.
The attack is part of a surge in violence in the region, which has been gripped by an insurgency since 2017 that has killed more than 6,000 people and displaced hundreds of thousands.
The targeted town lies about 80 kilometers south of a massive liquefied natural gas project, expected to resume operations soon after being halted due to previous attacks.
