Mauritanian community in Mali voices anger over closure of its businesses

The Mauritanian community in Mali has voiced strong concern over the sudden closure of a number of its businesses in the capital Bamako and several provincial towns.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the community said the closures have negatively affected Mauritanian traders’ activities. It noted that contacts have been made with the Mauritanian Embassy in Bamako and other diplomatic channels to seek clarification on the reasons for the decision and to demand protection of citizens’ interests.

The community also called on Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani to urgently intervene through official channels with the Malian authorities to ensure the continuation of Mauritanian citizens’ commercial activities.
