Malian prosecutors have requested a two-year prison term for former Prime Minister Moussa Mara, who is on trial in Bamako on charges of “undermining state credibility” and “opposing legitimate authority.”
The charges stem from posts on X in which Mara voiced support for detainees he described as “prisoners of conscience,” writing: “No matter how long the night, the day will eventually dawn.”
Mara, who served as prime minister from 2014 to 2015, was arrested in early August and remains in custody after the judge denied him provisional release. A final ruling is expected on October 27, in a case closely watched by the Malian public.
