International summit in Paris backs two-state solution and recognition of Palestine

France and Saudi Arabia are hosting an international summit in Paris on Monday, bringing together dozens of world leaders to rally support for the two-state solution.

Several countries are expected to announce their official recognition of the State of Palestine, a move likely to trigger strong reactions from Israel and the United States.

Israel has already rejected the initiative, with its UN ambassador Danny Danon calling the event a “circus” and confirming that both Israel and the U.S. will boycott it.

The summit comes as the Israeli government insists that “there will be no Palestinian state” while the war in Gaza continues.

On Sunday, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and Portugal officially recognized the State of Palestine, with France and five other nations expected to do the same today.
