ICC Withdrawal by Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso Sparks Global Condemnation

Human Rights Watch urged the African Union and ICC member states to press Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso to reverse their decision to withdraw from the International Criminal Court.

In a statement, the group said the move “poses a serious challenge to international justice in the Sahel.” Amnesty International described the withdrawal as “a troubling setback in the fight against impunity.”

HRW’s regional director for West and Central Africa called the decision “an insult to victims and survivors of the gravest crimes.”

The three countries announced their withdrawal in a joint statement, branding the ICC “a colonial tool in the hands of imperial powers.”
