Growing international recognition of Palestine sparks Israeli anger

The United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, and Portugal have officially recognized the State of Palestine, in a coordinated move aimed at reviving prospects for a two-state solution.

The decision triggered an angry response from Israel, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowing to retaliate.

These countries stressed that their recognition excludes any role for Hamas in future Palestinian political arrangements, while underscoring the need to achieve peace, secure the release of detainees, and enforce a ceasefire in Gaza.
