Ethiopia has graduated its first-ever cohort of Coast Guard Police officers, marking a historic step to strengthen maritime security and safeguard the country’s economic interests.
The graduation ceremony was held by the Federal Police in cooperation with the Ethiopian Shipping and Logistics Authority.
Federal Police Commissioner General Demelash Gebremichael hailed the achievement as “a proud new chapter” in the institution’s history, emphasizing that establishing the force reflects Ethiopia’s commitment to international standards.
Beriso Amelo, CEO of the Ethiopian Shipping and Logistics Authority, explained that the graduating officers received comprehensive training, enabling them to carry out maritime security and safety missions, thereby boosting Ethiopia’s ability to secure its maritime trade and ensure the safe passage of goods.
