DR Congo president urges international recognition of “genocide”

Democratic Republic of Congo President Félix Tshisekedi has called on the international community to recognize what he described as “genocide” in his country, saying it is a vital step toward justice.

In a video address to a scientific conference titled “Three Decades of Armed Conflicts in the DRC”, held on the sidelines of the 60th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Tshisekedi urged states and international organizations to support the creation of an international fact-finding and investigative mechanism.

He stressed that such a campaign is essential to protect the future of the Congolese people and to build peace based on truth and justice.
