Burkina Faso’s transitional president, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, accused Ivory Coast of “harboring opponents and providing a rear base for terrorists,” escalating tensions between the two neighbors.
Speaking on the third anniversary of his rise to power, Traoré claimed the Ivorian government was “complicit with terrorists,” questioning why Ivory Coast faces no attacks despite having a weaker army than Sahel Alliance states.
He also cited the arrest of six Ivorians on espionage charges in August and the disputed death of a Burkinabè activist in Abidjan, incidents that have further strained relations.
