The African Union’s Peace and Security Council, chaired by Algeria, has adopted a new strategic framework entitled “Early Warning System: Risk and Threat Map.”
The initiative aims to strengthen preventive diplomacy mechanisms and curb the escalation of conflicts across African states.
The system promotes a proactive approach based on continuous monitoring, preparedness, and rapid response to potential threats. The Council urged all stakeholders to institutionalize the framework by the end of the year in order to enhance its conflict prevention and management capacities.
The Council also praised the vital role of AU regional mechanisms, including the African Peer Review Mechanism, the African Centre for the Study and Research on Terrorism, and AFRIPOL, stressing the importance of closer cooperation among them to ensure peace and security on the continent.
