On World Humanitarian Day, the World Health Organization (WHO) in Yemen paid tribute to the dedication of health workers who continue to save lives despite unprecedented challenges in one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises.
The WHO highlighted that more than 19.6 million Yemenis are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance, while diseases such as cholera, measles, and malnutrition remain widespread.
The organization has supported over 141 health facilities with equipment and medical supplies, and deployed rapid response teams to tackle outbreaks.
Dr. Noha Mahmoud, WHO’s acting representative, called for the protection of health workers and medical facilities, stressing that they “work on the frontlines, often at great personal risk.”
The WHO also paid tribute to its staff members who lost their lives while carrying out their humanitarian duty.
These statements come as attacks on humanitarian workers continue, threatening the delivery of life-saving assistance to Yemen’s most vulnerable communities.
