According to Swedish Radio, the public prosecutor’s office has received more than 700 reports of war crimes linked to the Israeli offensive on Gaza since October 2023, submitted by organizations and individuals.
The reports mainly target individuals suspected of being present in the Gaza Strip and committing crimes there, while others concern officials who may have been outside Gaza at the time of the events.
Prosecutor Rena Devgun confirmed that investigations have been opened into the cases, without disclosing details about the alleged crimes or the identities of the suspects, including whether any Swedish citizens are involved.
The prosecution is working to collect testimonies from people with ties to Sweden who were in Gaza or possess evidence, which could be used in domestic or international trials, including at the International Criminal Court (ICC).
These steps come amid growing international condemnation of the war in Gaza, which has left more than 210,000 Palestinians dead or wounded.
The ICC has already issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former defense minister on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity, while the International Court of Justice is reviewing genocide allegations.
