Somalia’s national television announced that the military court had executed by firing squad three members of the Al-Shabaab group — Kodama Hamza Yusuf Mohamed, Abdi Hassan Roble, and Ibrahim Omar Shamon — after convicting them of murders committed in Mogadishu and the Lower Shabelle region.
The move comes as part of an intensified military campaign against armed groups, with Somali forces and African Union troops (including Ugandan contingents) killing more than 70 militants in Lower Shabelle in early August.
Somalia has faced a prolonged security crisis for years, with ongoing threats from Al-Shabaab and the Islamic State group, which have carried out repeated attacks against the government and African peacekeeping forces since 2007.
