The chiefs of staff of the Sahel Alliance armed forces met in Niamey to strengthen military cooperation between Niger, Burkina Faso, and Mali.
During the meeting, officers discussed mechanisms for unifying their armies and drafted joint documents to initiate coordinated military operations, aiming to enhance security and stability in the region.
This meeting follows the March 2024 decision to establish a joint military force among the three countries, which carried out its first operations against armed groups in April.
According to previous statements by Niger’s defense minister, the joint force is expected to number up to 5,000 troops equipped with aircraft, military hardware, and independent intelligence systems.
