The Hamas movement has agreed to a proposal put forward by Qatari and Egyptian mediators for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, according to informed sources. This development comes after extensive negotiations between the concerned parties.
The proposal includes:
- A temporary halt to military operations for 60 days;
- Redeployment of Israeli forces;
- Large-scale entry of humanitarian aid;
- A prisoner exchange involving the release of half of the Israeli hostages held in Gaza in return for a number of Palestinian prisoners.
A source familiar with the talks described the move as “the beginning of a path toward a comprehensive solution,” emphasizing that the plan is primarily aimed at protecting civilians from an anticipated Israeli military escalation.
The Islamic Jihad movement has also responded positively to the initiative, while Egypt, Qatar, and the United States continue mediation efforts to secure a permanent ceasefire.
