A devastating road accident in northwestern Nigeria has claimed the lives of 21 people, including 19 men and two women, while three others were injured. The crash occurred on the busy Zaria-Kano expressway when a heavy-duty truck collided with a commercial vehicle carrying passengers.
According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), preliminary investigations revealed that the driver of the commercial vehicle was driving against traffic, in clear violation of road safety regulations. This reckless act led to the deadly head-on collision.
Only three passengers survived the crash.
The Zaria-Kano highway is one of the major transportation routes in northern Nigeria and is known for its heavy traffic and frequent accidents.
Local authorities have launched a full investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the incident and to hold those responsible accountable.
