Texas Faces Humanitarian Catastrophe: 82 Dead, Dozens Missing in Floods

The death toll from the devastating floods in the U.S. state of Texas has risen to 82, including 28 children, according to the latest official figures.

Rescue teams continue searching for at least 41 missing individuals, including 10 girls and a counselor from the girls’ summer camp “Camp Mystic,” which was completely destroyed by the flooding.

Governor Greg Abbott stated that search operations are covering wide areas of the state, warning that the death toll could rise further in the coming days.

In Kerr County—one of the hardest-hit areas—68 bodies have been recovered, most of them young victims from camps in the Texas Hill Country region.

The state is grappling with dire conditions as heavy rains continue, raising fears of new flooding, especially in regions already devastated.

Officials voiced concern about the challenges facing rescue operations, which are being hampered by rugged terrain and environmental hazards such as water snakes.
