Saudi Arabia and France have called on United Nations member states to adopt a time-bound action plan to implement the two-state solution, during a conference held at the UN headquarters with broad international participation, notably without the United States or Israel.
The joint declaration, spanning seven pages, outlines a series of steps, including an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the formation of a transitional Palestinian government to administer the territory, and the deployment of temporary international forces.
It also calls for Israel to halt settlement expansion and violence against Palestinians and to recognize an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders.
The document emphasizes that regional stability hinges on ending the occupation and establishing a sovereign Palestinian state while providing security guarantees for both sides.
This initiative comes just weeks ahead of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, scheduled for September.
