Gunmen killed at least six people and kidnapped more than 100 others—including women and children—during a brutal attack on the village of Kairo in Nigeria’s northwestern Zamfara State, according to local sources and eyewitnesses.
A resident whose wife was abducted said the attackers stormed the village at around 10:40 GMT on Friday, firing indiscriminately at civilians.
Another witness reported that the gunmen surrounded the village for nearly two hours before leaving with the hostages, prompting thousands of residents to flee in search of safety.
Local lawmaker Hamisu Faro confirmed the incident, stating that the assailants were still raiding homes and abducting more civilians. “At least 100 people have been kidnapped, including women and children. The situation remains highly dangerous,” he warned.
Zamfara State has been plagued by repeated attacks from armed gangs engaged in kidnappings and killings, severely undermining security and endangering civilian lives across the region.
