Somalia’s Al-Shabaab militant group has claimed full control over the strategic town of Moqokori in the Hiran region, central Somalia, following a fierce assault involving car bomb attacks.
As of now, neither the Somali federal government nor the regional Hirshabelle administration has issued any official statement.
The attack reportedly caused casualties on both sides, though exact figures remain unclear.
Somali Member of Parliament Abdimalik Abdullahi blamed the government for failing to provide adequate support to local militias fighting against Al-Shabaab.
This development comes amid rising tensions in the Hiran and Middle Shabelle regions, where government forces and allied militias are conducting joint military operations against the group.
Observers say Al-Shabaab increasingly relies on fast, aggressive strikes to counter growing pressure on its strongholds.
