The 47th session of the African Union Executive Council has officially opened in Malabo, the capital of Equatorial Guinea, for a two-day meeting focused on financial and administrative governance within the AU.
Discussions center on budget management, international partnerships, and preparations for key continental and global events, including elections for AU Commissioners in education, science and technology, trade, and industry.
Algeria is represented by its ambassador to Addis Ababa, Mohamed Khaled, who leads the delegation on behalf of Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf.
The Algerian delegation emphasized the need to streamline spending and realign funding priorities in accordance with the AU’s Agenda 2063, particularly in the context of its second ten-year implementation plan.
They also highlighted the importance of multilateral partnerships, such as the AU-EU summits, the upcoming TICAD 9 conference, and the planned AU–regional economic communities coordination summit later this year.
Algeria reaffirmed its commitment to the 2025 theme: “Justice for Africans and People of African Descent through Reparations”, calling for strengthened collective action to address historical injustices.
Following this meeting, the 7th Coordination Summit between the African Union and regional economic communities is scheduled to take place on Sunday.
