OIC Condemns Israeli Strikes on Iran, Forms Contact Group to De-escalate Crisis

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) announced the formation of a foreign minister-level contact group to engage with international and regional actors in support of efforts to de-escalate tensions and “halt the strikes on Iran.”

In a joint statement issued after an emergency meeting of the 57 member states’ foreign ministers held in Istanbul, the OIC condemned the “Israeli aggression” against Iran and voiced its “deep concern over the dangerous escalation.”

The statement emphasized the “urgent need to halt Israeli attacks” and called on the international community to take “deterrent measures to hold Israel accountable for its crimes.”

The organization also adopted a separate 13-point resolution denouncing the Israeli and U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities and expressing its “full solidarity with Tehran.”

It urged the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to “firmly condemn the attacks and report them to the UN Security Council,” describing them as a “brutal violation of international law.”

The OIC reaffirmed Iran’s right “to self-defense and the protection of its sovereignty,” warning of the consequences of continued escalation.
