According to an African Perceptions correspondent, three Cameroonian soldiers were killed and two others seriously injured in an ambush carried out by separatist fighters near the village of Manda, in the Noun division of western Cameroon, close to the country’s Anglophone regions that have been mired in armed conflict for years.
Local sources reported that the victims — members of the police, gendarmerie, and army — were traveling in a military 4×4 vehicle en route to their duty post when they came under sudden attack. The unit commander, the driver, and another soldier were killed instantly, while the two injured were rushed to hospital in critical condition.
This incident marks another episode in a wave of escalating violence in western border areas adjacent to the North-West and South-West regions, where separatists have been engaged in a deadly struggle against government forces since 2017, seeking to establish an independent state known as “Ambazonia.”
Residents noted that a similar deadly attack occurred at the same location just weeks ago, raising fears that the area could become a permanent flashpoint in the ongoing conflict.
The separatist crisis in Cameroon has already claimed thousands of lives and displaced hundreds of thousands, amid repeated calls from regional and international organizations for dialogue and an end to the violence.
