Morocco chairs 57th UNECA, Africa finance ministers’ confab

Morocco was unanimously elected on Wednesday in Addis Ababa to chair the 57th United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) and the Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development.

This election reflects member states’ trust in Morocco’s leadership and commitment to dynamic and inclusive African economic governance.

The theme of this 57th session is “Advancing the implementation of the Agreement Establishing the African Continental Free Trade Area: proposing transformative strategic actions”, also covering the issues of digitization, technology, food security and energy transformation.

The session kicked off with the Committee of Experts meeting on March 12-14, followed by side events on March 15 and 16.

The ministerial segment will be held on March 17 and 18.
