A man and his wife were killed in an attack carried out by gunmen on a church in the village of Milo, in the Dosso region of southwestern Niger, according to local sources.
One source said the attack took place at night, when the assailants opened fire inside the church, causing panic. They later chased the couple to their nearby home and killed them.
The attackers also seized livestock, while several worshippers fled to neighboring villages or hid in nearby bushland.
The village lies in a border area near Nigeria and Benin, a region where Muslims and Christians have traditionally coexisted peacefully.
The attack comes amid a series of incidents in recent years in Niger targeting both Christian and Muslim places of worship.
