Sahel Alliance leaders launch joint television channel at close of Bamako summit

Leaders of the Alliance of Sahel States (Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso) have announced the launch of a unified official television channel, marking the conclusion of the Alliance’s second summit held in the Malian capital, Bamako.

The channel, named AES TV, was formally inaugurated during a ceremony at the Alliance’s headquarters, attended by Mali’s leader Assimi Goïta, Niger’s head of state Abdourahamane Tiani and Burkina Faso’s president Ibrahim Traoré.

The leaders described the move as the creation of a shared media platform aimed at conveying a unified official narrative for the Alliance and strengthening policy coordination among the three countries.

In his remarks, Mali’s president said the channel would play a role in the “information battle” and help entrench the Alliance’s media sovereignty, adding that any media support extended to other countries would be subject to collective consultation among member states.
