Washington recalls ambassadors from 15 African countries

The administration of US President Donald Trump has summoned the ambassadors of 15 African countries to Washington, in a move described as part of a broader review of US foreign policy.

The decision affects envoys from countries including Algeria, Egypt, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal and Somalia, along with nine other African states.

According to sources at the US State Department, the ambassadors were informed that their mandates will end at the beginning of January, after which they will return to Washington to take up other assignments. All of the recalled envoys were appointed during the administration of former president Joe Biden.

The move comes shortly after the resignation of the heads of US diplomatic missions in South Africa and Kenya, following Donald Trump’s victory in the most recent presidential election.
