Activities of the current edition of the Timbuktu Artistic and Cultural Festival will continue until 28 December in Mali, marking one of the country’s most prominent national cultural events.
The festival opened under the theme “Culture as a pillar for building the new Mali”, with strong official and diplomatic attendance.
Prime Minister Abdoulaye Maïga described the event as “not merely a celebration, but an act of remembrance and resistance,” highlighting its role in strengthening national identity and passing cultural heritage on to future generations. He also welcomed the response to the transitional president’s call to declare 2025 the “Year of Culture.”
Festival activities include exhibitions of visual arts and traditional crafts, alongside intellectual forums and workshops focused on heritage protection.
Timbuktu, a UNESCO World Heritage site, has drawn large numbers of international visitors during the event, once again underscoring its historic role as a center of Islamic scholarship and trade in West Africa.
