Mali’s Ministries of National Education and Higher Education have announced a nationwide suspension of classes from October 27 to November 9, 2025, due to a severe fuel shortage affecting the mobility of teachers and students.
In a joint statement, the ministries said the decision follows major disruptions in fuel supply that have impacted the education system, adding that efforts are underway to reorganize the academic schedule and resume teaching from November 10.
The fuel shortage stems from an embargo imposed by armed groups blocking shipments from neighboring countries and torching fuel trucks, creating a persistent crisis despite Malian army operations aimed at securing supply routes.
